Cheap and Cheerful Halloween Ideas for Kids

Cutesy costumes, fearful shrieks and sugar highs, Halloween is always a fun – and sometimes scary – time of year as kiddos bounce around from all the candy and excitement the holiday brings. Whether you're the person that prepares for months in advance for the black and orange day to come or you're a 'do it the night before' kind of person, we have compiled a list of some cheap and cheerful Halloween hacks to make the day extra fun and spooky.

LOLLY-FILLED SURGICAL GLOVE

Add an extra touch to the kid's treats by filling a see-through surgical glove with individually wrapped lollies or chocolates. You'll be the best house on the street for the little trick-or-treaters with these tasty give-aways.

SPOOKY MUMMY POPPERS

Think Egypt, not your mum! Mummy poppers are a great way to add a refreshing drink to the toddlers' Halloween agendas. Buy your favourite flavours and wrap them up in white tape, tissue paper or tulle. Then stick some googly-eyes on the front and you've got yourself mummies to go! 'Grrr...Grrr...' sound effects won't hurt either...

SCUBA DIVER COSTUME

If cheap and easy is your anthem, a scuba diver costume for your little one is perfect and adorable! Paint one or two litre soda bottles a bright color, glue them together and you have a scuba tank. Dress them up in all black, throw on some swimming googles and strap the 'tanks' to their backs. They'll want to find Nemo themselves in this costume!

PUMPKIN ORANGES

Hand out a healthy snack option that kids will enjoy just as much as lollies! Buy oranges or manderines and draw little jack-o-lantern faces on them so that they look like small pumpkins. The kids won't even care they're getting their daily serving of fruit.

BLOOD DRIPPING CANDLE DECORATION

To make your house a little spookier for your neighbourhood Halloween bash, add a little blood to the decor. Burn a red candle and drip the melted wax onto the top of white candles, so that it looks like blood is dripping down the white candles. Quick, easy and extra spooky!

JELLY SYRINGES

Your kiddos and their friends will love these sweet treats! Add colourful and tasty jelly to empty (needle-free) syringes – the trick-or-treaters will look forward to stopping by your house each year with these tasty and fun-to-eat treats!

JELLYFISH COSTUME

Dress your little monster up as a jellyfish for a super cute and easy costume. All you have to buy is a small clear umbrella, fasten blue, white and purple streamers to the end, dress them up in all blue and your jellyfish is ready to swim around the suburb.

SPIDER ICE CUBES

Give your kids the creepy-crawlies with spider ice cubes. Fill an ice tray with water, add plastic (and clean) spiders or other crawly creatures and pop them into the freezer. Add the ice cubes to their drinks, and they'll be sure to squeal.
