ABOUT NABO

Nabo is the social network for your suburb connecting neighbours in over 8,600 communities across Australia.

How our members have supported Volunteer Week

To celebrate National Volunteer Week (NVW) from 21-27 May, we wanted to acknowledge all the great Australians who dedicate their time to help others. The week was all about giving a little and changing a lot. At Nabo, we decided to give away $500 to three organisations to recognise the amazing work they do for their local community.

With hundreds of votes we could only choose three winners, but we would like to thank each and every one of you who voted in this competition. It’s always great to see how amazing our members are and how they inspire others, keep up the good work!

Our Winners…

AAA Sports Ballarat is a not for profit organisation which provides grass roots sporting opportunities for children with special needs and disabilities. Nabo member, Kellie Tait, runs the organisation with her husband Brad and they’ll be using the $500 to invest in sports equipment for the children. Nabo would like to take this opportunity to thank Kellie and Brad for their commitment to their community.

SALT SkillWomen Shed is run by volunteers who are all passionate tradeswomen who want to pass on their knowledge from hand and power tools to paving. They also run mobile workshops to teach girls and members of the community how to use tools. They wish to empower, improve self-esteem and help people believe they really can fix and make things with their hands.

WIRES, Hawkesbury branch - one of the 27 WIRES branches involved in the rescue and care of wildlife. WIRES assist tens of thousands of animals every year, receiving over 69,000 requests for rescue assistance annually. This post really stood out to us as they are seeking local support and that’s what we are all about! The money will go directly to veterinary costs, supply of specialised foods and supplements, and housing and medical equipment required to care for, rehabilitate and release our native wildlife.

With so many great posts, we wanted to give a special mention to some of the other amazing stories that inspired our team.

More great stories…

Showing their community that they are not alone during bad times. Thanks Heidi for sharing your story and showing the care you have for your community.

CrossPoint Church in Bayview Heights help victims of domestic violence and abuse. They give encouragement and a listening ear along with tea/coffee. They also offer financial aid through their special domestic violence fund, thanks to Joy for sharing and helping people.

Zonta Club of Cumberland West are a not-for-profit organisation servicing Western Sydney. They supply the Breast Care Institute at Westmead public hospital with cushions and distribute them to local hospitals.
