When Anna B moved from Melbourne to Launceston, it was with both excitement and apprehension. Happy to have escaped the “madness of Melbourne”, Anna was keen to dig in new roots.
“I joined Nabo because I had moved from Melbourne and as a social person, I wanted to connect with others in my area,” Anna said. “A friend had mentioned [Nabo] to me in Melbourne, so I thought I would give it a go when I arrived.”
With nothing to lose, Anna decide to create a group on Nabo that would fit around people’s busy lives. We all know how quickly things can pop up, but Anna wanted something simple that wasn’t as restrictive as other social groups can be.
The Coffee and Chat group has been meeting since February. Though the group has eight members, usually four different members attend each get-together.
“I know there are a lot of people like me who want something casual that does not involve committing yourself to particular times, and that is flexible enough to accommodate how you feel on a particular day,” Anna explained.
The group is a mix of long-time residents of Launceston and newcomers, like Anna. They share recommendations for GPs and dentists, as well as the odd exercise tip.
“We just spend the time together chatting about anything that comes to mind.”
Anna is loving her new lifestyle in Launceston. Between long walks and country drives, she’s so grateful for the connections she’s made through Nabo.
“People have certainly been a lot friendlier…there always seems to be something to do or someone to chat to,” finished Anna.
“I love Nabo for providing me with this opportunity. It allows me to know what is going on in the area and what people are here.”
If you’re one of those fantastic residents from Launceston, look up the Coffee and Chat group on Nabo and share in Anna’s experience yourself.
